A Study on Relation between Physical Health and Depression of the Aged in Nursing Homes: Focusing on Comparison with the Aged Residing in Community

Abstract
This study aimed to examinate the effects of physical health on depression of the aged. The data was collected from the aged of 224 paid nursing homes, 125 gratuitous nursing homes, and 161 community residents. The findings of the study were as follows. First, there was a significant difference according to physical health, sex, age and educational level of the aged. That is, the aged in gratuitous nursing homes were higher in age and more female, the aged in paid nursing homes were less healthier, and the age residing in the community were the lowest in educational level, comparing among groups. But there was no significant difference in depression according to the residential type of the aged. Second, regression analysis showed that the physical health affected depression of the aged. Then, there was significance in including the total of the sample, the aged of paid nursing homes, and the aged residing in the community. Also, the aged residing in the community were higher in depression according to the increase of the age.
